Rumors have been circulating around the Internet of a new “one by” (1x) chainring from Race Face. Well, it’s confirmed, the company will soon offer a new 104- BCD chainring sporting narrow/wide tooth profiling that should mesh well with SRAM’s 1×11 XX1 group. Race Face is quick to point out, however, that the new chainring will also work with pre-existing 9 and 10-speed 1x drivetrain systems. In short, if you want to ditch your front derailleur and simplify your drivetrain, this might just be an option worth considering.

Note the alternating narrow-wide-narrow-wide tooth profiling that debuted on SRAM XX1 and is said to reduce dropped chains--something everyone can appreciate. Looking to toss your front derailleur and simplify your drivetrain? You now have another option. Race Face says this will work with current 9 and 10-speed 1x systems as well.

While Race Face is keeping a lid on many of the product details until Sea Otter rolls around in April, company representatives tell us that the new ring is just as stiff and light as their current single-ring offerings (38 grams to be exact), but also brings along the enhanced chain-retention performance of the narrow/wide tooth profiling that SRAM debuted last spring within their new XX1 group.

Race Face will offer the ring in sizes ranging from 32 to 38 teeth and (in typical Race Face fashion) a gamut of anodized colors.
